Pilgrimage is to be carried out to fulfill the search for moral or spiritual significance. Both Christianity and Islam hold the idea of pilgrimage to high esteem. It is a requirement to fulfil one’s religious obligation. Below, are some verses from the Bible and Qur’an that support the idea of pilgrimage.


“Three times a year all your males are to appear before the Lord GOD, the God of Israel. “For I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your borders, and no man shall covet your land when you go up three times a year to appear before the LORD your God. Exodus 34-23-24
Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. And when He became twelve, they went up there according to the custom of the Feast; Luke 2:41-42
How blessed is the man whose strength is in You, In whose heart are the highways to Zion! Psalm 84:5
And many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths." For the law will go forth from Zion And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. Isaiah 2:3


“And Pilgrimage to the House is incumbent upon men for the sake of Allah, (upon) everyone who is able to undertake the journey to it; and whoever disbelieves, then surely Allah is Self-sufficient, above any need of the worlds. [Qur’an 3:97]
“And complete the Hajj or Umrah in the service of Allah” Qur’an 2:196]
The Prophet was reported to have said that “When a person, on whom Hajj becomes obligatory, completes the Hajj properly, his/her sins are forgiven such as if he/she is a newly born child. [Hadith]
